Melvin Claude Rogers, of Perryville, died Friday, November 1, 2013 in the V.A. Maryland Health Care System of Perry Point, MD. Born July 7, 1919 in Marion, SC, he was the son of the late Berkley and Beulah Louvenia Foxworth Rogers. He was 94. Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife of 68 years, Gloria Constance Warner Rogers of Perryville; sons, Melvin C. Rogers, Jr. of Pensacola, FL, James D. Rogers of Perryville, George D. Rogers of North East; daughters, Susan A. Mintle of Des Moines, IA, and Rebecca W. Preston of Bel Air, MD; 11 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and half-brother, Robert Rogers of Mullins, SC. He was a United States Army Master Sergeant. He was a 23 year army veteran of both WW II and the Korean War. As a Pearl Harbor survivor, he was a Commemorative Pearl Harbor Metal recipient. Mr. Rogers was formerly employed for 20 years as the lead mechanic by the Maryland State Police, North East Barracks F. He was a member of the Fort Bragg, North Carolina Masonic Temple No. 667.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by his brothers, Lacy Earl Rogers, Stephen Lee Rogers, Donald Berkley Rogers; and sisters, Annie Luvenia Rogers and Linda Rogers. Funeral services were Wednesday, November 6, 2013, 1 PM, at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., Perryville, MD. Visitation for family and friends was Tuesday, November 5, 2013, 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Harford Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen, MD. Comments are closed.
