Martha Lorraine Allred (Lorraine) passed away on December 22, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. Lorraine was born on August 24, 1935 in Barnsley, PA to the late J. Curtis Gambill and Amanda Brooks Gambill, and was the youngest of 12 children. Lorraine grew up in Zion and went to school at Calvert, then graduated from Rising Sun High School in 1953. She went on to graduate from Goldey-Beacom School of Business in 1954. She worked for a number of companies including: DuPont Company, National Bank of Rising Sun, and USPS as a Postmaster where she retired in 1992. Lorraine was a member of Janes United Methodist Church for 43 years where she was active in many church groups. Additionally, she was a member of the Southern Sidekicks for many years. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, dancing, Gambill family reunions, and traveling. She traveled to many countries and all 50 states, and in particular, she enjoyed visiting the National Parks and Presidential libraries. She is survived by her three sons: David Allred, Stephen Allred, and Jeffrey Allred and his wife, Sharon; grandchildren: Hannah, Mallory, Amanda, Nicholas, Matthew, Carson, and Kerrigan; brother, Richard Gambill; sister, Marie Smith.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Floyd E. Allred, Jr. and son, Thomas Daniel Allred. A celebration of Lorraine's life will be held at 11am Saturday, January 2, 2015 at Janes United Methodist Church, 213 N. Walnut Street, Rising Sun, MD 21911, where family and friends may visit beginning at 9am. Burial will be held at 11am on Tuesday, January 5, 2015 at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Colora, MD.
