Marie Esther Lucas of Perryville died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014 at the Calvert Manor Healthcare Center. She was 92. She was born on February 3, 1922 in North East, to the late Frank and Lucy M. (Reed) Schuman. She worked at Triumph Explosives during World War II. She was a lifelong resident of Cecil County and a devoted member of the Rosebank United Methodist Church. Mrs. Lucas loved gardening, watching the birds, tending to her many flowerbeds, and cooking for family, friends, and neighbors. She and her late husband, Earl, also volunteered for many years delivering for Meal on Wheels in Cecil County. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Lucas was preceded in death by her three brothers, Jacob Schuman, Howard Schuman, and Albert Schuman, Sr. and her sister Catherine Adams.
She is survived by her two daughters, Jean Ann Singleton of Perryville and Barbara Lee Hornberger and her husband, Terry of Perryville; two grandchildren, Frank Earl Hornberger and Michele Denise Hornberger, both of Perryville; one sister Irene Tingley of Petersburg, W.Va.; and a wonderful and caring roommate at Calvert Manor, Margaret Fortune. She was the wife of 61 years of the late, Earl Johnson Lucas who died in 2004. Family and friends may call Thursday, September 25, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Rev. Hal Owens of Rising Sun will officiate. Burial will be held privately.
