Margaret Alice Cifaldo of Perryville died August 1, 2014. She was 92. Born August 25, 1921 in Perryville, daughter of the late George W. and Margaret McManus Hornbarger. She was born and lived her entire life in her family’s home in Perryville. She was a 1938 graduate of Perryville High School. Following graduation she attended State Teachers College at Salisbury. Upon receiving her degree, she returned to her hometown of Perryville where her first job was teaching in a one-room schoolhouse in Liberty Grove. Later she transferred to Chesapeake City Elementary School where she had to take a boat to get from the north side of the canal to the south side where the school was located as the Chesapeake City bridge had not yet been constructed. For many years, until her retirement, she taught first grade at Perryville Elementary School. Mrs. Cifaldo was a charter parishioner of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. She and her husband, Domonick, were instrumental in the construction of the church building, as well as construction of Good Shepherd School. She was always busy raising funds, assisting with bingo, and most dear to her heart was playing the organ and spending time with her church family.
She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Domonick. They were happily married for 60 years and enjoyed working together to serve the church and the community. Mrs. Cifaldo is survived by her nieces, Ann M. Preston and family, Marcia L. Biggers and family; nephew, George H. Hornbarger and family; and lifelong friend and sister-in-law, Maggie Jackson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Domonick Joseph Cifaldo, and brother, George H. Hornbarger, Sr. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, August 7, 2014, 1 p.m., at Good Shepherd Catholic Church of Perryville. Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2014, 4-8 p.m., at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Father Jay McKee of Good Shepherd Parish will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Erin Cemetery, Havre de Grace. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Catholic Church or Good Shepherd Catholic School in care of Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., P.O.
