Lucy H. Durham of Wilmington, Del., formerly of Colora, died at home April 11, 2015. She was 102. Born in Swords Creek, Va., on April 7, 1913, she was the daughter of the late William T. and Louisa Whited. Mrs. Durham was a very active member of the Rising Sun Church of the Nazarene for over 47 years. She served as Sunday School Teacher, Missionary President, Financial Secretary and member of the Share A Prayer group for many years. Her passion was her home and her family. She enjoyed reading the Bible, spending time at church, crocheting, quilting, cooking, planting a garden, canning, working with flowers, listening to and playing Christian bluegrass and Southern gospel music.
Her presence was commonplace at her four great grandchildren's sporting, school, and social events. Everyone knew "Goodmommy". She is survived by her daughter, Lucille M. Jadwin of Wilmington; grandson Donald C. Dempsey, Jr. and his wife Maria of Wilmington; great grandchildren Donald, Catherine, Jennifer, and Harrison Dempsey. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest J. Durham who died in 1993 and son-in-law Robert Jadwin who died in 2010; as well as seven brothers and three sisters. A service honoring her life will be held at the Rising Sun Church of the Nazarene, 2626 Jacob Tome Memorial Highway, Colora, on Saturday April 18, at 1 p.m. with a visitation at the church beginning at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at West Nottingham Cemetery.
