Kay Parks Bailiff of Rising Sun died Friday, June 7, 2013 at Union Hospital. She was 76. She was born in Sugar Grove, Virginia on December 20, 1936, daughter of the late Joel H. and Shirley R. Parks. Mrs. Bailiff lived in Sugar Grove until moving to Maryland in 1954. She was a graduate of Sugar Gove High School. She worked in Fabrics and Finishes at the DuPont Company in Wilmington, Delaware for 10 years. She was a cashier for Acme Markets in Rising Sun for 33 years. Mrs. Bailiff was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Rising Sun. She was also a member of the Cecil County Woman’s Club and the Country Thyme Garden Club.
Mrs. Bailiff enjoyed family gatherings and vacations, and holidays, especially Christmas. She was an avid gardener, and received great joy in growing beautiful flowers, especially roses. She delighted in giving bouquets of her flowers to her friends and family. She loved nature, watching and feeding songbirds, and the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. She was a loyal Baltimore Orioles and Ravens fan. She was the wife of 57 years to Theodore Bailiff, Jr. In addition to her husband, she is survived her daughter Karen Bailiff Davis and husband David of Cecilton; and son David M. Bailiff of Oxford, Pa.; grandchildren Allyson D. McCraw of Warwick; David P. Davis, IV and Mackenzie C. Davis both of Cecilton, Grace E. Bailiff of Oxford, Pa., and great-granddaughter Olivia K. McCraw of Warwick. She is also survived by her brother Darrell Parks and his wife Donna, of Willis, Va, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two infant brothers, Robert and Delwin Parks; and her sisters, Velma E. Parks and Sarah G. Parks. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Dan Sheard and Rev. Charles Finney, were held Wednesday, June 12, from Calvary Baptist Church, 35 Sylmar Road, Rising Sun. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to help establish a horticulture scholarship in Mrs. Bailiff's honor in care of Crouch Funeral Home or to Calvary Baptist Church, 35 Sylmar Road, Rising Sun, MD.
