Kathryn Ann "Kathy" Heidel of North East died at home of ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) Thursday, August 13, 2015. She was 68. She was born on May 8, 1947 to Melvin and Kathryn Huber in Baltimore. Mrs. Heidel spent many hours doing volunteer work for her church, St. Mary Anne’s, for Union Hospital, at North East Elementary School, as a mentor and as president and secretary for the North East Women’s Civic League. Her happiest moments were spent with her loving family and close friends, especially George and Mariana Wilke and the book club gals, Broads with Books.
Like Lou Gehrig, Kathy considered herself the luckiest person in the world. This disease did not rob her of the great love, good friends and good fortune she enjoyed. Her life really began when she met her husband and true love, Ray, in college. They were married 48 years. She is survived by two daughters, Amy Miller (husband Dave) and Rachel Bennett (husband Jamie); five grandchildren, Alex and Hunter Miller, Tage, Ari and Rosalie Bennett; two brothers, Chuck Huber (wife Beth and children Ben and Kelsey) and Rick Huber; and two brothers in law, Lou Heidel and Jim Lang. A memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday, August 18, from 6-8 p.m. at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, August 19, at noon at St. Mary Anne's Episcopal Church, 315 South Main Street, North East. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Comments are closed.
