Joseph Richard Dugan, Sr. of Rising Sun died at home March 12, 2014. He was 63. He was born on December 27, 1950 in Rising Sun, son of Betty Monger Dugan and the late Kenneth Dugan. Mr. Dugan grew up in Rising Sun where he excelled in baseball and was known as a longball hitter. He graduated from Salesianum Catholic High School in Wilmington, Del. in 1967. Mr. Dugan began his career as a journeyman electrician for Henkels & McCoy. He retired from Aberdeen Proving Ground after 33 years of service. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.
He enjoyed waterfowl hunting, fishing, golfing, playing pinochle and going on family trips to the beach. Mr. Dugan was also a diehard New York Yankees fan, enjoyed computers, birding, nature and long Sunday morning drives after church. In addition to his father, Joe was preceded in death by his son Joseph Richard Dugan, Jr. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 16 years, Deborah of Rising Sun; daughters Nicole Dugan of Orlando, Fla. and Susan Dugan Penta of Elkton; stepsons Rick and Joseph Scarlato; granddaughters Madison, Mariah and Skylar Penta, and Isabella and Gabriella Scarlato; sisters Dawn Dugan and Kimberly Johnson, both of Rising Sun; niece Kelly Gordner Rixham and nephew Christopher Johnson of Rising Sun. He also leaves behind his faithful canine companion Maxx. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Queen St in Rising Sun on Monday March 17, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. A visitation will be Sunday March 16, 2014 from 4-6 p.m. at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911. Burial will be in Brookview Cemetery following the Mass. Memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Asssociation or St. Agnes Catholic Church in care of the funeral home. Comments are closed.
