Joseph Elwood Crothers, age 61 of Rising Sun, MD passed away peacefully at his residence on August 22, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 14, 1956 in Havre de Grace, MD to Elwood Clair Crothers and the late Nellie Belle (McCoy) Crothers. Joe was a graduate of Rising Sun High School in 1974. During this time, he was employed by Wiley’s Manufacturing in Port Deposit, MD. After graduation, Joe was a heavy hauling specialist operator with Robbins Motor Transportation where he had the privilege of traveling across the country as well as Canada and Mexico. During his travels, Joe made sure to find a Harley Davidson shop in each state where he would purchase a t-shirt. He also collected hats from each state, which he proudly displayed throughout his garage. In his earlier years, Joe began building a collection of Snap-on tools. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, loved classic cars, and his pride and joy was his 1964 Corvette. Joe was a member of Teamsters Union Local of Northern New Jersey. Joe is survived by his wife of 32 years, Karen Armour Crothers of Rising Sun, MD; daughters: Ericka A. Crothers of Earleville, MD, Carissa L. Billings and her husband, Nicholas of Rising Sun, MD, and Tabitha W. Crothers of Rising Sun, MD; sister, Brenda Smith and her husband, Joe of Rising Sun, MD; brother, John Crothers of Colora, MD; sister, Debbie Cummins and her husband, Mike of Conowingo, MD; father, Elwood Crothers of Conowingo, MD; grandchildren: Isaiah Atlee Crothers and Johanna (JoJo) Lynn Jones; and JoJo’s father, Kevin Jones. In addition to his family, he is survived by his two grand dogs: Greta and Karma; and his beloved bird, Louie.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Nellie Crothers; brother, Bobby Crothers; father-in-law, William Atlee Armour, Jr.; and mother-in-law, Doris M. Armour. A visitation for Joe will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 pm at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 South Queen Street, Rising Sun, MD 21911. A celebration of Joe’s life will be held on Monday, August 28, 2017 at 2:30 pm at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A with a visitation beginning at 1:30 pm. Burial will be held privately.
