Joseph Dale Allen went home to be with his heavenly father on January 4th, 2016 after suffering from a long chronic illness. His loving wife, Elsie Jean Reed, and his children took care of him and were by his side during his journey. He had been surrounded by family and friends during his battle who dearly loved him and will greatly miss him. Mr. Allen was born on November 16, 1956 in Penn Yan, New York. He was the son of Rev. James Allen and Ruby Faye Allen. His father was founder and pastor of the Fellowship Baptize Church in Elkton, MD. Mr. Allen grew up in church singing and playing music. He was predeceased by his loving parents. He is survived by his two brothers, Terry Allen of Tennessee and James Allen of Rising Sun, MD. He was a lifelong resident of Cecil County, MD. Mr. Allen served in the U.S. Navy from 1974 through 1977 at Long Beach, CA. He was honorably discharged and then transferred to the Naval Reserve and served from 1977-1988. While in Long Beach, CA, he married Robin and they had a set of twins, Robert and Cindy Allen, who survive him. He later divorced and returned to Maryland. After returning to Maryland, Mr. Allen married Debbie McMillian who predeceased him. They had three children: Crystal Foster, Joseph Dale Allen Jr. (who married Courtney) and James Gene Allen who survive him. He is also survived by his two grandsons, Joshua and T.J. who referred to him as Poppy. Mr. Allen dearly loved his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Allen married his long lost sweetheart, Elsie Jean Reed, on April 30th, 2011 at the Nazarene Church, Nottingham Road, Elkton, MD. As young teenagers they attended church together and were sweet on each other. They met again, after his second wife passed away, and fell in love all over again. On their wedding day, he also made a promise to love and raise Gabrielle Somers as his own child. Mr. Allen kept his promise to Gabrielle and they enjoyed a special father and daughter relationship. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Jean Reed, and his little girl, Gabrielle Somers of North East, MD. Mr. Allen worked for S & S Pavement for over 30 years. He enjoyed working in his garage and on heavy equipment. He loved motorcycles and plowing snow. He would secretly plow the snow from local churches' parking lots so people could attend church. Listening to gospel music and picking his guitar was a favorite past time. He felt one of his greatest accomplishments in his lifetime was serving the Lord by singing and playing the guitar in churches all over Cecil County. Spending time with his family and friends was his joy. He loved sharing his faith and witnessing to people. His dying wish was that his family and friends would continue in his Christian faith so they would be reunited one day and spend eternity together. Services will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 12:00 noon at Elkton Church of the Nazarene, 377 Nottingham Road, Elkton, MD, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am until service time. Interment with military honors will follow in the adjoining cemetery. For condolences, please visit HYPERLINK "http://www.crouchfuneralhome.com" www.crouchfuneralhome.com. Comments are closed.
