Johnny W. Kyte, of Rising Sun died Sunday, April 5, in Heartland Hospice, Wilmington, Delaware. He was 73. Mr. Kyte was born June 24, 194, in Mountain City, Tennessee, a son of Conley and Villa Kyte. He was a retired Boilermaker. He was a member of Sons of American Legion Post 194, Rising Sun, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 2259, Sebring, Florida, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2666 Oxford, Pennsylvania, and Oxford Gun Club. He was an avid golfer and skeet shooter and played in the Harford-Cecil Shuffleboard League for many years. He is survived by his companion of 17 years, Betsy Tome of Rising Sun. He is also survived by five children; Johnny Jr. and wife, Mary of Elkton, David Kyte and wife, Renee of North East, Kathy Hines and husband, Floyd of Charlestown, Pam Maxwell of Elkton, 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jim Kyte and his wife Mary Ann of Ormond Beach, Fla.
His extended family includes Kelli, R. Wayne, and Lisa Tome, four grandsons, and a great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his beloved cat, Meow. His son, Michael Kyte, died in 2012. A memorial service will be held Monday, April 13 at 1 p.m. at Mason Dixon American Legion Post 194, East Main Street, Rising Sun, with Chaplain Axel Wicks officiating. Please omit flowers.
