John William "Jack" Myers, Sr. of Chesapeake City died Sunday, June 9, 2013. He was 84. Born in Christiana, PA, on May 31, 1929, he was the son of the late Robert R. and Bessie Love Myers. Mr. Myers was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He had been a truck driver for 60 years. Along with his wife, Helen, they owned and operated Jack and Helen's Restaurant for 46 years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Chesapeake City, the Greater Wilmington String Band, and Union Masonic Lodge #48 AF&AM, Elkton. He was also a life member of Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 of Chesapeake City, Inc., American Legion Post, Christiana, PA, and the Lions Club of Chesapeake City. Mr. Myers enjoyed playing the guitar and organ, making and repairing clocks, painting, making donuts and building dollhouses.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen Miller Myers; children, Linda J. Miller and husband, Marty, Davenport, Fla., Donald L. Myers and wife, Emilse, Kissimmee, Fla., and Alan Myers and wife, Corinne, Chesapeake City; daughter-in-law, Vicki Myers, Chesapeake City; grandchildren, Eddie Davis, John Myers III, Ron Davis, Connie Forster, Patti Blakeney, Tammi Shiles, Brittany Myers, Joanna Myers, Stephanie Myers and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Myers was preceded in death by his son, John W. Myers, Jr.; and siblings, Betty Quay, Robert Myers, Jr., and Les Myers. A funeral service was held Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 450 3rd St., Chesapeake City Masonic Lodge service was held at 2:45 p.m. Burial with military honors was in Bethel Cemetery, Chesapeake City.
