John Summerfield Dean, Jr. of North East died at home Wednesday, August 5, 2015. He was 82. A lifelong resident of North East, he was born on April 16, 1933, the son of the late John S. Dean, Sr. and Elizabeth (Kibler) Dean. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Mr. Dean retired from Elk Neck State Park after many years of service. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and his pet wild turkey. Most of all, he loved being at home and with his family. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patricia Dean; two daughters, Jody I. Collins of North East, Cindy D. Morris of Salisbury; two sisters, Mary Ann Bowers of North East, and Virginia Lee Nelson of Long Island, N.Y.; four grandsons, John Collins, Barry Collins, Christopher Morris and Randy Morris; five great grandchildren, Brittany Davis, Rebekah Collins, Jarod Collins, Nicholas Morris and Noah Morris; and numerous near and dear nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Dean, and a sister, Evelyn Hollenbaugh. Funeral service, conducted by Rev. Grant Nelson, will be held Tuesday, August 11, at 11 a.m. at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, where visitation will be held on Monday from 6-8 p.m. Burial will follow in North East Methodist Cemetery.
