James Walter Buchanan of Havre de Grace, formerly of Principio Furnace, died Monday, October 13, 2014. He was 85. Born December 23, 1928 in Lewisville, Texas, he was the son of the late James Walter, Sr. and Josephine Roberts Buchanan. Mr. Buchanan was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean War as Machinist Mate First Class. He was a retired Stationary Engineer and Operations Foreman of the V.A. Medical Center of Perry Point. He was a member of Perryville United Methodist Church, the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion and the VFW. He is survived by his son, Philip K. Buchanan and wife, Donna, of Fallston; daughter, Melanie M. Buchanan-Nooney of Ocean View, Del.; granddaughters, Alexandra Buchanan, Savannah Buchanan, Kristina Buchanan; and sister, Marie Landers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Buchanan; brother, Joseph Buchanan; sisters, Pauline Cook, Faye Scudder, and Leona McBride. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, October 15, 2014, 1 p.m., at the Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, P.A., Perryville. Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, October 15, 2014, 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., at the funeral home prior to the funeral service. Rev. Dr. John M.R. Gauger of the First Baptist Church of Perryville will officiate. Burial will be in Angel Hill Cemetery, Havre de Grace.
