Helen Josephine Brasefield, of North East, formerly of Easton, Pa., died July 23, 2016. She was 101. She was born on April 24, 1915, on her great-uncle’s farm in Auburn, Ohio, daughter of the late John E. and the late Alice O. (Forsha’) Kent. Mrs. Brasefield graduated from Aurora High School, Ohio, in 1933 and was married August 11, 1938 to James S. Brasefield. For 11 years, she and her husband operated their store, “Jim & Jo’s Hardware” in Seipsville, Pa. Later she was employed by Keystone Foods in Easton, Pa., for 10 years. Mrs. Brasefield was a devoted wife and mother who loved to spend time with her family. She enjoyed family vacations at Ocean City, N.J., playing card games, and traveling. She was a Proverbs 31 woman.
She is survived by two sons, Edgar James Brasefield and his wife Jennie of Concord, N.C., and Richard Charles Brasefield and his wife Nancy of Elkton; and one daughter, Mary Alice Rudy and her husband Randy of Elkton. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, James S. Brasefield; all of her siblings; a grandson, Ronald Richard Brasefield; and a brother-in-law, Clayton E. Brasefield and his wife Helen. A memorial service will be held at The First Baptist Church of North East on Saturday, July 30, at 11 a.m. with visitation starting one hour before the service. Burial will be private.
