Gene Patrick "Pat" Ward, 85, of Chesapeake City, MD, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2016. He was born on June 3, 1931, in Elkton, MD, to the late Joseph Vincent Ward and Charlotte Matilda (Hostetter) Ward. Pat graduated from the Jacob Tome Institute in 1949 and the U.S. Naval Academy in 1953, retiring on May 1, 1964, with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He returned to Cecil County and worked for the CECIL WHIG as a reporter and later as the editor. In 1969, he attended the University Of Maryland School Of Law and was admitted to the Bar in 1972. Pat practiced law for over thirty years. He enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, reading, and spending time with his family and friends. He also loved to watch horse racing and Navy football, especially the Army-Navy game. Pat is survived by his wife of 55 years, Christine Ward of Chesapeake City, MD; his son Michael Ward and wife Beth of Middletown, DE; daughter Michele Ward of Bear, DE; two grandchildren: Brittany Borgese and Emily Ward of Middletown, DE; sister Martha Ward Bogdanovitch and husband James of Rutland, VT; uncle E. Ralph Hostetter of North East, MD, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Pat was preceded in death by his brother Joseph V. Ward, Jr.
A memorial service for Pat may be held at a future date at the family's discretion. Memorial contributions in Pat's honor can be made payable to the "Alzheimer's Association" and sent in care of R.T.
