Gary Michael Slagle, age 65, of Elkton, MD, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2015. Born in Greeneville, TN, on November 21, 1949, he was the son of the late Howard J. and Juanita Baines Slagle. Mr. Slagle had owned Gary Slagle General Contractor from 1977 to 2013, building quality custom homes in Cecil County, Maryland and Delaware. He was a 1968 graduate of Elkton High School, and attended Harford Junior College until joining the Army Reserves and serving from 1969 until 1975. Mr. Slagle was a member of the Eder Park Association and Immaculate Conception Church. After playing for Elkton Little League for many years, he went on to coaching, taking several of the boys All Star teams to state championships and then to the Eastern Regionals. In 1971, he was instrumental in starting the Cecil County Junior Football League, coaching the Cougars from 1971-1993, winning 161 games and 12 championships. He had coached football, softball and baseball at Elkton High School, coaching the baseball team to a state championship. Mr. Slagle played in the Delaware Semi-Pro league for several years, earning All Star status and being named MVP for pitching a 10-0 season. In this league, he started his own team, Slagle Construction, allowing young men to continue with a high caliber of play. Mr. Slagle enjoyed hunting, fishing, laughing, practical jokes and his Philadelphia sports. But most of all, his total life was encompassed with the love of his children and grandchildren. He definitely wins the “Best Pop Pop” award. He attended all activities for his grandchildren and watched them play on a daily basis. Their laughter was a sound he cherished. His greatest legacy is being a beloved Dad and Pop Pop. Comments are closed.
