Ellis Dale Hornberger of Elkton, formerly of Perryville, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013 in Laurelwood Care Center, Elkton. He was 85. Born February 4, 1928 in Maryland he was the son of the late Frank B. and Ida Bristow Ryan Hornberger. Mr. Hornberger was formerly employed as an Armanent Maintenance Foreman/Mechanic Maintenance Supervisor by Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen. He was a lifetime member of the Susquehanna American Legion Post No. 135 of Perryville, and an officer in the Power Squadron. Mr. Hornberger was a 30+ year veteran serving as a Master Sgt. in the United States Army. He served in W.W. II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam war. He was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, W.W. II Victory Medal, Army Occupation Medal (Japan), Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palms, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal (1st - 6th Awards), Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Expert Badge w/M16 Rifle Bar and Meritorious Service Medal.
In addition, Mr. Hornberger very much enjoyed feeding birds and squirrels, and had lived in New Smyrna, Florida for 20 years. Mr. Hornberger was preceded in death by his wife, Mae M. Hornberger. Funeral services will be private. Comments are closed.
