Ellener Elaine Harvey of North East died February 26, 2016 at Top of the Hill Manor in Street. She was 94. Born in Steelton, Pa. on November 1, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Ethel (Dailey) Foster and sister to seven siblings that preceded her in death. Mrs. Harvey was a graduate of the Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing in 1942. Upon completion she was employed by the Harrisburg Hospital, Bethlehem Steel, and the Harrisburg Psychiatric State Hospital. In 1963, she accepted a position at the Perry Point Veterans Administration Medical Center as the charge nurse in the operating room. She stayed in this position for 17 years and eventually supervised the closing of this department.
After retirement she was recruited to organize and implement nursing services for the Cecil County Detention Center under Sherriff Jack Dewitt. Mrs. Harvey was an active member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, Bethel Women’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, North East VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and the Maryland Nurses Association. She enjoyed sewing, painting, volunteering as a mentor, writing in her journal, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and sharing in their extracurricular activities. She is survived by her children, Deborah G. Vincenti and husband Thomas of Havre de Grace; John F. Harvey and wife Kathy of Calabash, N.C.; Kenneth R. Harvey and Miriam Patterson of North East; and Joy M. Topolski and husband Jerry of North East; seven grandchildren, Amy Hudson, Alisa Webb, John, Kara, and Coleen Harvey, Jason and Jillian Topolski, and two great grandchildren: Ian and Seth Hudson. She was the wife of John ‘Jack” G. Harvey who preceded her in death on November 24, 1997. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Mark Crispell, were held Wednesday, March 2 at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, where burial will follow in North East Methodist Cemetery. Comments are closed.
