Elizabeth M. Hale of Charlestown died Tuesday, August 6, 2013 in Union Hospital, Elkton. She was 96. She was born in Newark, Del. in 1917 and was raised in Glen Riddle, Pa. She lived in Aston, PA from 1943-1957. While living in Aston (Green Ridge) she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for Green Ridge Fire Co. She was also a Sunday School teacher at Green Ridge Community Church. She lived in Kirkwood Gardens (Wilmington, Del.) from 1957 until 1975. She moved to Charlestown Manor in 1975. Mrs. Hale loved Bingo and attended regularly. She was a great seamstress, making clothes and doing alterations for many friends. She also made the best chicken and dumplings in the world. She loved going to watch her grandson play ball and going to her granddaughter’s on Wednesdays for family dinner.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Tanner of North East, MD, Carol McNutt (Stewart) of Newark, Del.; two sisters, Jean Thompson of Bradenton, Fla., Vivian Allison (Bill) of Wilmington, Del.; a granddaughter, Kimberly Figgs (Thomas) of Newark, Del.; three grandsons, Stewart McNutt (Kelly) of New Castle, Del., Robert Tanner (Laurie) of Elkton, and Josh Tanner of Charlestown Manor; and two great grandsons, Jacob Figgs and Jackson McNutt. She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Earl Porter; her husband: Harold J. Hale; a son: Robert A. Hale; and four sisters, Margaret Jones, Hannah McMaster, Mildred Pennington and her twin sister, Dorathy Fulmer. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Mary Brown, were held Saturday, August 10, 2013 from Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mt. Hope, Pa. Comments are closed.
