Edith Ulrika Hostetter of North East died at home on Sunday, February 7, 2016. She was 93. She was born July 9, 1922, the daughter of the late Floyd H. and Elsie E. White. Mrs. Hostetter was the consummate homemaker and mother of six children. She was a graduate of Tome School, class of 1940, and Goldey School of Business. She worked as a secretary at Aberdeen Proving Ground during World War II. Mrs. Hostetter was active with the North East Women’s Civic League and was their longest active member since the early 60s. She greatly enjoyed hosting an annual fall theme party and luncheon for the Civic League. She was fortunate to have travelled to five continents along with her husband. The Tome School was a big part of her life. She was born, raised and lived her entire adult life within a two-mile circle of Cecil Avenue in North East. When it was her opportunity to help Tome, she simply moved Tome within her circle. She conceived the purchase of the Clark Farm in her forties. The Tome School rests on that farm today.
