Donald Edward Manges, Jr. of North East died Thursday, April 14, 2016. He was 75. Born in Johnstown, Pa., on February 27, 1941, he was the son of Donald Edward Manges, Sr. and Geraldine (Matthews) Manges. Mr. Manges was a member of the Keuka Lake Association in Hammondsport, N.Y. He served on the Board of Directors of Chesapeake Isle Civic Association and was named Chesapeake Isle Man of the year. His interests include boating, golfing, hunting, and he was a private pilot.
He attended Penn State, Rochester Institute of Technology, and was a Rutgers Graduate. Don was a member of Kappa Upsilon and founding member of Alpha Phi Omega. Mr. Manges was a chemist, employed by Johnson & Johnson and Merck Medco. He is survived by his wife, Babs Manges, one daughter, Laurinda K. Smith and her husband John of Dayton, N.J., sons, Matthew S. Manges and wife Valerie of Elkton, and Christopher L. Manges of Eureka, Montana; and grandchildren, Courtney and husband Scott, Chelsea, Alexander, Emmett, and Chloe. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 19, at 3 p.m. at North East United Methodist Church, 308 South Main Street, North East. There will be a visitation one hour before the service.
