Derrick Lowe, of Elkton, died unexpectedly at Union Hospital on Wednesday, August 5, 2015. He was 49. Mr. Lowe was born and raised in Elizabethton, Tennessee, son of Frances Lowe of Elizabethon. After working as an engineer for Nissan Motor Company for a number of years, he met and married Dr. Elizabeth Lowe. He was a graduate of Tennessee Tech with a BS degree in Industrial Technology. He then went on to East Tennessee State University where he obtained his MBA. After that, he earned a paralegal certificate at Widener University Legal Education Institute. He received is J.D. from Widener University School of Law in 2008. He was admitted to practice law in the State of Maryland in 2008. After graduating law school, Mr. Lowe served as Law Clerk to the Hon. O. Robert Lidums of the Circuit Court for Cecil County. In 2010 he was elected as the Clerk of Court for the Circuit Court of Cecil County. He was a member of the Maryland Circuit Court Clerk's Association and served on several committees. He also represented the Clerk's Association as a member of the Standing Rules Committee for the Maryland Court of Appeals. Furthermore, Mr. Lowe was a Master Mason and secretary of the Masonic Lodge, Union Lodge no. 48 in Elkton. He was also active in the community, including serving on the Board of Directors for Mount Aviat Academy and as a lay Eucharistic minister for St. Augustine Parish. He was past president of the Elkton Rotary Club. As a Rotarian, he recently received a Distinguished Service Award as Chairperson of the Braintree Primary School project in Kampala, Uganda. He chaired a Bluegrass Concert Fundraising committee benefitting local Cecil County charities. He was also the Chairperson for the Cecil County Family Friends of Scouting and was an assistant Den Leader Cub Scout Pack 131. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society.
In addition to his mother and wife Mr. Lowe is survived by his two children, Webster and Emma, and a brother, Craig Lowe, of Elizabethon. Friends can call at the R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A. in Elkton on Sunday, August 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 9 at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Chesapeake City with Rev. Jim Wolford officiating. Burial will be at St. Augustine Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the "Rotary Foundation - Bluegrass Concert" or "St. Augustine Parish" in Chesapeake City c/o the funeral home. Comments are closed.
