Loretta Mae Adkins, age 80, of Elk Mills, MD, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017. Born in Lewisburg, WV, on December 1, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Gerald E. and Neva Dean Beamer. Mrs. Adkins retired after more than 25 years as a newspaper carrier for the Wilmington News Journal. She was a member of Crossroads Bible Church, Elkton. Mrs. Adkins loved being with her family and enjoyed working on puzzle books. Survivors include her sons, Vernon R. “Sonny” Adkins, Jr. (Terry), North East, MD, Steve B. Adkins (Bonnie), Elk Mills, MD, and Bradley P. Adkins (Candy), Elkton, MD; grandchildren, Katina Knox, Robert “Kelsey” Clark, Brandon Clark, Vernon E. Adkins, Sr., Todd Adkins, Kelly Adkins, Steve B. Adkins, Jr., Sarah Adkins, Brad Adkins, Jr., and Katie Adkins; great-grandchildren, Zachary Knox, Anthony Knox, Gabriella Clark, Jacob Clark, Tori Clark, Tyler Clark, Jeannette Adkins, Kayla Adkins, Vernon E. Adkins, Jr., Victoria Adkins, Autumn Adkins, Alyson Graham, Dylan Graham, Paislee Johnson, Damien Adkins, David Shutt, Jr., Erika Shutt, Taytum Hartnett, Logan Adkins, and Carson Adkins; and siblings, Juanita Brown, Larry M. Beamer, both of Elkton, MD, and Kenneth W. Beamer, Wilmington, DE.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Adkins was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Vernon R. Adkins, Sr.; daughter, Vicki L. Adkins; and brothers, Gerald “Bobby” and W. David “Butch” Beamer. Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Monday, December 11, 2017, at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD, where family and friends may call after 9 a.m. Interment will be in Cherry Hill Methodist Cemetery, Cherry Hill, MD.
