Clarence Raymond Banks of Abingdon died Wednesday, July 9, 2014. He was 76. Born May 25, 1938 in Elkton, son of the late Samuel and Frances Banks. He was the third oldest of 10 siblings. Mr. Banks graduated from George Washington Carver High School and later joined the U.S. Army where he served four years. He was later employed by Aberdeen Proving Ground as an Instructor having retired in 1993 after 34 years of service. He was most recently employed for five years through Wack N Hut as a Security Guard for the Pepsi Corporation until his recent illness.
He was an active member of his church home and held several positions over his lifetime such as Certified Lay Servant, trustee, usher, treasurer, and choir member. Mr. Banks is survived by his wife of 33 years, Elaine Gerald Banks of Abingdon; daughter, Kristy Banks (Javis) of Augusta, Ga.; four grandchildren, Gabriel, Armani, Jaylen, Zion; five siblings, Sarah Clark (Carl) of Port Deposit; Samuel Banks, Jr. (Shirley) of Willingboro, N.J.; Helen Akins of Port Deposit; William Banks of North East; and Frances Honesty of Port Deposit; a special great nephew, Robert Tolbert (Ramona); Goddaughters, Rosalind Allen and Jocelyn Hampton; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, July 16, 2014, noon, at Cokesbury United Methodist Church of Port Deposit. Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, July 16, 2014, 10 a.m.-noon, at the church prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Berkley Cemetery, Darlington. Comments are closed.
