Carrie Belle “Kate” Hodge of Elkton died at home June 11, 2013. She was 75. She was born in Woodbine, Pennsylvania on November 29, 1937 to the late Harley and Delores Stanley. A graduate of Kennard-Dale High School in Fawn Grove, Pa., Mrs. Hodge was a devoted wife and homemaker. She moved with her family to a Fair Hill farmette in 1976, where she enjoyed gardening, raising horses and other livestock. She also had a passion for sport, and became de facto Team Mom (or MomMom) for dozens of football, baseball, softball, and soccer teams over the decades. She was married to her best friend, John Franklin “Frank” Hodge, Sr., for 56 years.
She is survived by three sons, John Franklin Hodge, Jr. and wife Giulia of Elkton, Jeffrey Douglas Hodge and wife Ann of Wilmington, Del. and Jay Alan Hodge of Elkton. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Nicholas Hodge of Parkville, Ashlee Hodge of Bear, Del.; Alana Hodge of Middletown, Del.; Jennifer Hodge of Wilmington, Del.; and three step-grandchildren: Cory Wayne of Philadelphia and Jared and Justin Drass of Wilmington, Del. She is also survived by Austin Stanley of Bear, Del., Gernie Hudson and Janet Cook of Wilmington, Del., Gladys Wright of Newark, Del., Larry Stanley and Brenda Budzialek of Elkton. She also left behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins. One of 10 children, Kate was preceded in death by Carletta Stanley, Lora Ewell, and Robert Stanley. A Celebration of Life was held Monday, June 17, 2013 from R. T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 259 E. Main Street, Elkton.
