Betty A. Temple of Elkton died at home Sunday, March 8, 2015. She was 87. Born October 21, 1927 in Loudon County, Va., she was the daughter of the late George B. and Samantha (Mercer) Underwood. Mrs. Temple was an active member of Rock Presbyterian Church where she was a trustee, elder, choir member, Sunday school teacher, as well as an elected delegate to the Presbytery General Assembly. She was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts for many years; she was also an active member of Toastmaster International, First District and acted as Lady Governor of District 18.
Her kitchen is where she could go to relax. She loved cooking and baking, especially her cakes. She is survived by her four sons, Lester J. “Mickey” Temple, Jr. and his wife, Lorraine of Rising Sun, Michael W. Temple of Conowingo, Barry A. Temple of Elkton, and Chris M. Temple and his wife, Darlene of Elkton; brother, Kenneth B. Underwood of Glen Burnie; sister, Ida A. Sapp-Casey of Bear, Del.; and sister-in-law, Ruth S. Underwood of North East; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Lester J. Temple, Sr. who died January 5, 2014; brother, George D. Underwood; and Mary Frances “Top” Murphy. A visitation will be held Sunday, March 15, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911. A funeral service will take place on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home where family and friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made payable to Rock Presbyterian Church or Amedisys Hospice and sent in care of the funeral home.
