Barbara Carson of Rising Sun died at her home on Monday, June 10, 2013. She was 81. She was born in Rising Sun on May 10, 1932 to the late William and Dorothy (Bell) Cox. Mrs. Carson was a graduate of Rising Sun High School. In her earlier years, she was a licensed beautician and worked at a beauty shop in Oxford and later out of her home. She was a bookkeeper at Southern States in Rising Sun for over 10 years. After leaving there, she and husband Jacob owned and operated Greenhurst Farm, an award winning Guernsey farm. They were chosen 2005 Cecil Soil Conservation District Cooperator of the Year and received a similar award from the Maryland Department of Agriculture. After they sold their cows, she went to work for Floral Plant Growers as a grower. Barbara was a member of Janes United Methodist Church. Hobbies were reading, gardening, bird-watching, and doing puzzles of all sorts.
She is survived by her husband Jacob B. Carson of almost 60 years of Rising Sun; daughter, Carolyn Fletcher and husband Wayne of Galena; sisters, Madolyn Harris of Rising Sun, Evelyn White of Colora, brother, William H. Cox, Jr. of Plantation, Florida; step-grandsons, Thomas Fletcher and family of Rock Hall, and Robert Fletcher and family of Crumpton, and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Dottie Ann Carson; son Steven Carson; sister Mary Lou Mitchell; and brother Richard Cox. A service honoring her life was held at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911on Monday June 17. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery. Comments are closed.
