Arthur Wheaton of North East died Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care, Christiana Hospital, Newark, Del. He was 92. Born in Pine Brook, N.J., on October 5, 1921, he was the son of the late Louis and the late Rachael (Yerkes) Wheaton. Mr. Wheaton served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, 421st Night Fighter Squadron in the Pacific. He retired as Maintenance Manager after 44 years of service from White Labs – Schering Plough, Inc., in Kenilworth, N.J.
He attended St. Mary Anne’s Episcopal Church, North East, and Elkton Presbyterian Church, Elkton. He was a life member of the North East River Yacht Club, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Past Division Captain of Flotilla #2108 United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was a 50 year member of Lafayette Lodge #27 AF & AM, Rahway, N.J., where he served as a past Worshipful Master. He continued on with the masons as a Shriner at the Nur Temple in New Castle, Del. as a member of the Marching Patrol. He was past president of the American Association of Plant Engineers and also of the Rahway NJ Safety Council. He was a 22-year volunteer as a machine interpreter at Hagley Museum, Wilmington, Del. Mr. Wheaton is survived by his wife of 56 years: Barbara (Arnesen) Wheaton; his daughter, Judith W. Herrman and her husband Daniel L. of Lewes, Del. and son: Michael L. Wheaton and his wife Maria R. of Middletown, N.J.; a sister, Ruth Apice of Brick, N.J.; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings, William Abbott Wheaton, Lewis Wheaton, and Sarah Wheaton. A memorial service, conducted by Reverend Kathryn Costas, will be held Saturday, January 18, 2014 at noon at St. Mary Anne's Episcopal Church, 315 South Main Street, North East.
