Norma Lee Dean of Elkton died Friday, March 11, 2016. She was 76.
Born in Wilmington, DE, on June 25, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Edwin B. and Genevieve Mae (Savage) Wharton. She was the office manager for Dean Concrete for many years. Mrs. Dean enjoyed the beach, swimming, crocheting and animals, especially cats and dogs. At one time she was raising 21 birds. Babs Johnson Waters of Hances Point died at home March 12, 2016. She was 65. She was born in Wilmington, Del. on June 8, 1950, daughter of the late Bob and Betty Johnson. She spent her career at Delmarva Power for 30 years as a Senior HR Business Partner. Mrs. Waters came to Cecil County with her parents from an early age to their family weekend cottage in Bay Boat Works, Hances Point. She was the ultimate giver and always cared for family and others over herself. Mrs. Waters led a very active life with heavy involvement in the North East Cancer Society and Relay for Life. She and her husband Jim met 27 years ago on a blind tennis date. They enjoyed their time together traveling to the Florida Keys and boating on the Chesapeake Bay. Watching competitive tennis, Sunday football and ending the day with a glass of Chardonnay were her favorite pasttimes. Ellamae 'Ellie' Dugger of Rising Sun died Friday, March 11, 2016.
Born in Freeland (Baltimore County) Maryland, she was the daughter of the late James and Mae Pugh. Ms. Dugger attended elementary school in Baltimore County and high school in Rising Sun, where she graduated, receiving awards for excelling in shorthand and typing. She worked at Bainbridge Naval Training Center as a secretary at the Manpower Center until the base closed then transferred to the Perry Point VA Medical Center as secretary to the chief engineer. Larry Raymond Kendall, Sr., 68 of Elkton, MD, died Monday, March 7, 2016 in the Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE.
A lifelong resident of Elkton, he was born on August 14, 1947. He was the son of the late Calvin Franklin Kendall and the late Agatha Elaine (Frock) Bristow. Larry was a Loader Operator, employed by York Building Products since 2005. Louise Virginia Jenkins, 98, of Luther Crest Retirement Home, Allentown, PA (formerly of Rising Sun, MD), passed away peacefully on Friday, March 4. She was preceded in death by her husbands, E. Newell Jenkins, Andrew Flowers and E. Joseph Cooney, and her son, Carl R. Cooney. Louise was born in Elkton, Virginia and lived most of her life in Rising Sun, Maryland. Her childhood years were spent on the family farm a few miles from town. Louise graduated from Rising Sun High School as valedictorian of her class and was a long-time member of Janes United Methodist Church. She retired from Aberdeen Proving Ground after years of work and afterwards traveled extensively throughout the United States. Her fondest memories of her long life were of times spent with family and friends. John Patrick Tighe of Perryville, died at home Sunday, March 6, 2016. He was 65.
Born November 22, 1950 in Chicago, he was the son of the late John P. and Emily Loftus Tighe. Mr. Tighe was employed by Frito Lay of Aberdeen, as a truck driver. He was a member of Good Shepherd Parish having attended Good Shepherd Catholic Church of Perryville. Charles Walker Lowe, age 63, of Rising Sun, MD passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2016. Born on April 27, 1952 in Grundy, VA. He was employed by John Zartler, farming for most of his working career. He was a big fan of the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles sports teams. He also enjoyed fishing. Charles is survived by his children, Charles Ernest Lowe and his wife, Kelly of Leonardtown, MD and Shelley Goetchius of Exmore, VA; sister, Margaret Pomante of North East, MD; grandchildren, Destiny Goetchius, Steven Goetchius, Katherine Lowe, Sarah Lowe, and Caroline Lowe; former spouse, Doris A. Lowe of Belcamp, MD; 2 nephews, Brian Lowe of North East, MD and Patrick McCardell of Quarryville, PA. Ruth A. Brittingham of Elkton, died March 4, 2016 in Calvert Manor Healthcare Center. She was 73.
Mrs. Brittingham was born on March 29, 1942 in Street, daughter of the late Amos Brady and Lottie Anderson Little. She was raised in Street and from 1990 to 2008 lived in Rising Sun until moving to Elkton. Mrs. Brittingham began her career with the Department of the Army and later worked for Battelle, retiring in 1992. She was a member of Rising Sun Church of the Nazarene for over 30 years and was an auxiliary member of the Rising Sun American Legion. She enjoyed playing the ukulele and helping others. Emmitt Allen Brown of Port Deposit died at home Saturday, February 27, 2016. He was 78.
Born May 15, 1937 in Port Deposit, he was the son of the late Emmitt Washington and Dorothy Attee McMullen Brown. Mr. Brown was retired from Amtrak. |
