Hazel E. Roberts Boyle of Perryville died at home Friday, March 18, 2016. She was 85. Born October 22, 1930 in Chester, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Allen B. and Rena M. Baker Roberts. Mrs. Boyle was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church of Port Deposit, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Susquehanna American Legion Post No. 135 of Perryville, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the North East V.F.W. Post No. 6027. Arthur Lawson Hare of North East died Friday, March 18, 2016 in the Christiana Hospital, Newark, Del. He was 70. Born in Chapel, Va., on June 10, 1945, he was the son of James Lawson and Clarice (McCoy) Hare. Mr. Hare was a stock chaser for Chrysler for many years before his retirement. Ronald Allen “Bugs” Hines of Elkton died Thursday, March 17, 2016. He was 67.
A lifelong resident of Cecil County, he was born on April 8, 1948, son of the late William and Mary Ruth (Hendricks) Hines. He retired from Chrysler after 33 years of service and worked as a custodian for Cecil County Public Schools for the past 11 years. A member of the NRA, Mr. Hines enjoyed all types of sports. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. Gregory Anthony Vreeland, 62 years, of Perryville, MD, died Monday, March 14, 2016, at his residence.
Born December 26, 1953 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of Monica Morrissey Vreeland and the late James Arthur Vreeland. Gregory was a Supervisor employed by C & S Wholesale of North East, MD. Charles Dunton Tull of Elkton died Monday, March 14, 2016 in the Union Hospital of Cecil County, Elkton. He was 91. Born in Pocomoke on March 29, 1924, he was the son of the late Eugene and the late Alice (Dunton) Tull. Mr. Tull served his country in the U.S. Navy. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a master plumber for the U.S. Government at Aberdeen Proving Ground. He was a member of the North East United Methodist Church, North East Lions Club, and was the oldest living member of the North East Fire Company. On Sunday afternoon, March 13th, 2016, Rodney Russell Abrahams passed away due to neurological complications. His final words were voiced in the company of loved ones at University of Maryland’s Shock Trauma Center with assurances of comfort and peace by the hands of his daughter’s colleagues. Rodney was 85 years old. Rodney was born on October 9th, 1930 in Port Deposit, Maryland. He was one of 5 siblings raised by Martha and Woodward Abrahams. A fervent reader and electrical engineer by trade at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Rodney was held in high esteem by friends and loved ones as an intellectual who possessed incomparable candor. His tenacious work ethic was evident in his home desk occupied by ongoing research projects and drafts, his workshop containing troves of self-designed mending tools, and his attic housing an assortment of intricate model airplanes. Rodney dutifully served his country during the Korean Conflict as a Sergeant in the United States Army. Contently residing in the town where he was born, Rodney happily dedicated mental and physical energy toward improving his local community. He was also an active and dependable member of Tome Memorial United Methodist Church. In even the most capacious of reflections, words prove expectedly meager when measuring the degree of his integrity. Patricia “Pat” Ann Gorton died on Friday, March 11, 2016. She was 70.
She was born on February 17, 1946 in Providence, Rhode Island to the late Francis B. Gorton and Rita O’Brien Gorton. Ms. Gorton was a dedicated and devoted participant of Bayside Community Network, Inc. for 40 years. During this time she worked on various projects and developed many close and lifelong friendships. She was a simple girl at heart; loving a good laugh, a warm meal and time spent with those she cherished. Her passion was for the one and only man in her life, Elvis. She was an avid participant of Cecil County Special Olympics. William (Dave) David Yale passed away March 13, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 21, 1958 in West Grove, Pennsylvania, and was 57 years old. He is survived by two loving parents, William and June Yale of Calvert, Maryland, and spoke many times of his pride in their work following God’s lead; and a sister, Margaret Brown of Phoenix, Maryland. Additionally, he leaves behind his beautiful and loving best friend of 29 years, wife Linda Yale, and children, Michael Madron, Cameron Yale, and Jayce Yale all of whom he shared pride in the adults they have become. During his youth, Dave was a Boy Scout in Troop 28, Rising Sun, MD where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. As an adult, he continued his scouting commitment where he served as a Cub Master of Pack 143 and Scout Master of Troop 143. In honor of his dedication to Troop 143, he was awarded the title of Scout Master Emeritus. Dave’s career, spanning 34 years began as a Field Service Engineer at E.I. DuPont, District Service Manager, Regional Service Manager, and Service Director with Applied Biosystems and Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc. Dave was a life-long member of Rosebank United Methodist Church where he served as a lay leader. Dave’s hobbies included Amateur Radio (KA3YNV) and Civil War reenacting, portraying the 1st North Carolina Artillery Battery A. He also enjoyed fishing, boating, and riding jet skis. Robert Wilson Laird, Jr. of North East, formerly of Quakertown, Pa., died March 12, 2016, at Christiana Hospital, Newark, Del. He was 70. Born October 4, 1945, at Aultman Hospital, Canton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Robert Wilson and Zelma Ruth (Trueshel) Laird. As a member of a military family, Mr. Laird spent parts of his youth in France and in Germany. For most of his youth, however, home was Fort Dix in Browns Mills, N.J. He was a star pitcher for the local Little League team, hurling two no-hitters in his career. In his teen years, he picked up the alto saxophone and joined the high school jazz band which even recorded a “45”. Margaret “Peggy” Sprout of Rising Sun died March 12, 2016 at Jennersville Regional Hospital. She was 75.
A lifelong resident of Rising Sun, she was born on May 31, 1940, the daughter of the late, Harry J. Fox and Virginia Stephens Fox. Mrs. Sprout was the fifth generation to live on her family farm. She was a life member of Ladies Auxiliary of the Community Fire Company of Rising Sun. Additionally, she was a life member of the Cecil County Farm Bureau, the Cecil County Farm Museum, Cecil County 4-H and All Stars. |
