Genesis Diaz of Elkton won the individual championship and Harford Tech took the team title at the Susquehanna Division golf tournament played Tuesday in Rising Sun.
During the third quarter of Friday night's 35-19 loss to visiting Southern, Rising Sun coach Rich Opp muttered to no one in particular, "That counter criss-cross. I'm going to be seeing it in my sleep."

The Perryville golf team won a home meet Thursday on the back nine at Furnace Bay.
The Panthers (216) downed Patterson Mill (223) and C. Milton Wright (228). The Perryville field hockey team has high expectations. The Panthers lost two starters from last season's team including center midfielder Merve Akbay, but return 10 seniors this fall. Senior Lacie Flores is a three-year starter in goal. "Lacie has worked with these girls in high school and in summer and indoors. They know her and trust her," said coach Janet Candy. Rising Sun field hockey team is working to narrow the gap with some of the region's perennial powers.
The Tigers finished 9-5 last season but lost 8-0 to Hereford in the region final for the second straight season. Rising Sun lost five starters to graduation but has a solid nucleus back. It will be something of a new beginning for the Perryville boys soccer team.
The core of the team which won a Susquehanna Division title three years ago has all graduated. Coach Ken Ulrich and the Rising Sun boys soccer program is faced with another rebuilding job.
The Tigers have already shown they are up to this kind of a challenge. Rising Sun lost 11 seniors from the 2013 squad yet managed to go 12-3 last year and losing to Fallston in the second round of the region tournament. The Perryville volleyball team is well-equipped to pursue the elusive state title.
The Panthers have captured four straight titles and a fifth is well within their grasp. "We're excited by the ride we've been on," coach Matt Borrelli said. The Rising Sun volleyball team is not standing still.
Fearing complacency, coach Rich Wilson is retooling his team even though the Tigers have been undefeated in the past two regular seasons, won two straight region titles, and advanced to the state final last fall. |
