Coach Ken Ulrich and the Rising Sun boys soccer program is faced with another rebuilding job. The Tigers have already shown they are up to this kind of a challenge. Rising Sun lost 11 seniors from the 2013 squad yet managed to go 12-3 last year and losing to Fallston in the second round of the region tournament. The Tigers lost 11 seniors from last year's squad, 10 of whom were key contributors, but have 11 seniors again this fall.
"We've done this for two years and we've been able to bounce back," Ulrich said. "Do I think we'll be competitive? Yes. Do I think other teams have a shot at us? Heck yeah." Rising Sun will face a difficult Chesapeake Division schedule this fall. "I don't expect us to have the same record we had last year," Ulrich said. "I think we'll be as competitive as we were last year but we play a much tougher schedule. We're going to use those games to help us improve throughout the season. We're looking to the end of the season. That's our goal." The Tigers will rely on several seniors to lead the way. Captain Bryce Calhoun will split time in goal with Chris Orr to start the season as they did last year. Wyatt Kennedy will anchor the defense with help from seniors Bryan Butler and Kai Brewer. Captains Kane Watson and Logan Holtman will spearhead the midfield. "They are the two best midfielders in the county," Ulrich said. "Their style of play is slightly different but they complement each other." Senior Jose Ramirez will contribute as an outside midfielder. Senior captain Brad Alexander is the team's top returning forward. Senior Brandon Denk, a transfer from Red Lion, is expected to contribute at forward. Comments are closed.
