Ten Cecil County wrestlers, including five from Rising Sun, earned a state meet bid by finishing in the top four at the east region tournament Saturday at Parkside High in Salisbury.

Perryville sophomore Cage Jones captured the boys pole vault title at the MPSSAA Class 1A/2A indoor track and field meet Monday, February 22, at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex in Landover.
Jones won with a height of 11 feet. "Since I'm only a 10th grader, it's an awesome feeling to win a state title," Jones said. "Coach Weiss (Raissa Moore) moved me to a longer pole so that I could vault higher. My confidence increased. I knew I had a shot at winning the title, especially when I didn't hit a single bar until after I had won. My next goal is to get to 12 feet and higher." The Perryville boys basketball team hung tough with a powerful Joppatowne squad for three quarters before the Mariners pulled away for a 57-39 triumph Monday night, February 22.
Rising Sun freshman Silas Filliaux picked a big stage to claim his first-ever tournament title.
Filliaux dominated North Harford's Will Sadowski 5-1 in the 132-pound final Saturday afternoon at the UCBAC wrestling championships in Aberdeen. "It's crazy," Filliaux said. "I didn't even know I'd get this far." The Rising Sun girls basketball team faced too tough of a task on Senior Night.
Newark Charter, with no seniors on its roster and a star freshman point guard and eighth grader in the starting lineup, topped the Tigers 37-20 Friday night. Perryville boys basketball coach Charles Givens Sr. recorded the 400th victory of his distinguished career as the Panthers pummeled visiting North Harford 56-31 on Senior Night Wednesday.
