The Perryville field hockey team has high expectations. The Panthers lost two starters from last season's team including center midfielder Merve Akbay, but return 10 seniors this fall. Senior Lacie Flores is a three-year starter in goal. "Lacie has worked with these girls in high school and in summer and indoors. They know her and trust her," said coach Janet Candy. Perryville has three returning starters to anchor the defense – seniors Kaitlyn Griffin and Haleigh Clise, and junior Ashley Meekins. Senior Caitlin McCann is competing for playing time on defense. The Panthers are also loaded with talent and experience in the midfield with senior three-year starters Lydia Hill and Taylor Poore and senior Ally Remesch, who is starting for a second straight year. Junior Alysa Conway is capable of contributing at either midfield or defense. Senior Kyleigh Knell, one of the county's top point producers last year, is back at forward. Junior Claire Hudson started at the end of last season. Senior Ali Hunter has varsity experience and junior Krissy McDuff is working her way back from an injury. Sophomore Aubrey Hill saw varsity action late last season. Junior Kate Biddle is also vying for playing time. Perryville will be tested by tough Chesapeake Division foes which should come in handy during the playoffs. The Panthers lost 2-0 to Fallston in the region title game last season, but Fallston is no longer in the same region. "Our expectations are high," Candy said. "The girls have been coming out intense. This is definitely the best overall team I've had. They are knowledgeable and work really hard. It's a great group to work with athletically, academically, and personality-wise. I'm looking forward to seeing where the season goes." Comments are closed.
