The Solanco softball team is poised to have another successful season.
Last year, the Mules finished 12-7 and captured the Section Two title. Senior pitcher Kalyn Burger was the workhorse last year, recording 11 victories and compiling a 1.87 ERA in 116 1/3 innings pitched. "Kalyn has been working through some injuries but that will be resolved soon," said Miller. The Solanco softball team is saying goodbye to nine seniors who helped the squad to a 16-6 record and fourth place finish in the district. "This group has had a lot of wins," Solanco coach Brett Miller said. "They have done a lot for the program. Some of them were three-year starters and have helped advance the program." Kortnee Kreider, Kerri Mauger, Emily Parmer, Brittany Fisher, Sam Graver, Emma Kreider, Morgan Hodson, Danae Dombach, and Kate Herr are graduating Wednesday night. "They've been playing together for many years and it showed," Solanco coach Brett Miller said. "Some were leaders. Others were role players. But they all contributed and that's what you need to have to have a year like we had." Solanco's softball season ended one win short of a trip to the state tournament.
The Mules lost 7-2 to Manheim Township Friday in a District 3 consolation game at Muhlenberg High School. The Blue Streaks used some bloops and two blasts to garner the district's third and final state tournament berth. Solanco's softball season ended Friday afternoon with a 7-2 loss to Manheim Township in a district consolation game played at Muhlenberg High School.

UPDATE: Postponed by rain Thursday, Solanco's state qualifier game with Manheim Township will be played Friday, May 30, at Muhlenberg High School. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
The Solanco softball team lost 4-2 in 10 innings to Lower Dauphin in the district semifinals Wednesday night at Millersville University. Lower Dauphin scored three runs in the top of the 10th. The Mules scored a run in the bottom half but stranded two runners. Story and photos from the Lower Dauphin game will be published in the June 3 edition of The Chronicle TUESDAY UPDATE: Solanco's district semifinal game with Lower Dauphin, originally scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed by rain and is now slated to be played Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Millersville University.
Solanco's softball team advanced to the district semifinals for the fifth time in school history and the first time since 2007. The Mules defeated Dallastown 9-7 last Thursday in the district quarterfinals at Millersville. Solanco scored six first-inning runs, fell behind 7-6, and then rallied for the victory. The Solanco JV softball team finished the season with a record of 13-2, losing only to Hempfield and Ephrata.
“This year’s weather patterns were quite a challenge when it came to being outside, but everyone made the most of our practice times and games,” coach Chad McDowell said. “I think we only ended up having thre and a half practices outside on our actual field. Even though we were forced to have many inside practices, thse young ladies stayed focused, they kept in good spirits. an they continued working hard daily. I really appreciate them for having such a great attitude and work ethic. This was an absolutely wonderful group of young ladies to be around day in and day out. They learned a lot about the game of softball this year, sportsmanship, and most importantly, they learned how to be great teammates.Their teammates and the memories (on and off the field)will be what they will remember most from this season. This was a memorable season and we had a lot of FUN this season and this team spelled fun, W-I-N." The Solanco softball team is turning its attention to the district tournament following a loss in the first round of the Lancaster-Lebanon League Tournament Saturday.
The Mules fell 5-4 to Pequea Valley. Pequea Valley scored the go-ahead run in the fifth after the Mules had battled back from a three-run deficit to tie it. Down 4-1, Abby Heidelbaugh ignited the Solanco rally with a single and Kerri Mauger had a bunt hit. The runners moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Emily Parmer. Sam Graver delivered a two-run double to left center, advanced to third on a throw, and scored on a grounder to second by Cait Armstrong. The Solanco softball team entered the week with a league and district playoff berth secured and a shot to claim the section title. The Mules won twice last week including an 18-2 triumph over Lebanon in four innings Friday. Leading 13-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth, Solanco put the game away. Pinch hitter Makayla Pluck, up from the JV, walked to ignite the uprising. Maribeth Ault had a hit. After an out, Kate Herr walked and Emma Kreider singled to drive in a run. Abby Heidelbaugh walked to force in a run and Danae Dombach ended the game with a three-run double. Ault was 3 for 4 on the day and Kreider was 2 for 2 with three RBIs. "It's always good to be able to get people at bats," coach Brett Miller said. The Solanco JV softball team pounded Conestoga Valley 18-0 in three innings Monday, April 28, in its lone game of the week.
Albrea Doss picked up the win, striking out seven while allowing one hit. She also added a pair of doubles. Bekah Borcky was 3 for 3 with a triple and four RBIs. Makayla Pluck provided three hits including a triple and three RBIs. Leila Redmond recorded two hits including a triple and swiped two bases and Sarah Frawley had two hits. Kalyn Burger had a single and an RBI and Julianna Zak also singled. |
