The undefeated Mules (7-0) outscored its three opponents 42-7 last week. Solanco pummeled Penn Manor 18-3 in four innings Friday. Solanco gained an early upperhand in the section standings with three wins, including a 10-6 victory over the Mules' main rival, Elizabethtown, Friday night. Strange things often occur during Solanco's annual night game visit to E-town and this was no different. The contest, played in a light drizzle which intensified late, featured three umpire conferences and lasted 2 1/2 hours. "It was an interesting night," Solanco coach Brett Miller said. Freshman Abby Heidelbaugh blasted a two-run homer to left-center to cap a four-run second inning outburst. The Mules added four more in the third before the hosts battled back to cut the margin to 8-6 heading into the seventh. Kerri Mauger delivered a two-out, two-run single to plate Maribeth Ault and Madi Sheaffer to pad the lead to 10-6. "That was a huge, productive inning," said Miller. "The situation is a lot easier when you're ahead 10-6 and it showed. Solanco's JV softball team finally got on the field last week.

The Solanco softball team is a big hit. The Mules banged out 18 base-knocks to raise the curtain on the season with a 9-1 triumph over host Pequea Valley Friday. Winning pitcher Kortnee Kreider delivered a two-out, two-run hit in the first to plate Kerri Mauger and Emily Parmer. As usual, the Solanco softball team expects to compete for a section title and a district playoff berth. Senior Kortnee Kreider will lead the Mules' pitching staff and is expected to carry the load while sophomores Cait Armstrong and Kalyn Berger battle back from injuries. Senior Emily Parmer returns behind the plate. "She receives the ball very well and is a good defensive catcher," coach Brett Miller said. The Solanco softball team lost 8-6 to Donegal in the quarterfinals of the Lancaster-Lebanon League Tournament Monday, May 13 at Garrett Park. Donegal scored four runs in the sixth to overcome a 6-4 deficit. "We just needed to do better defensively," Solanco coach Brett Miller said.
The Solanco JV girls softball team had a very successful 2013 season. The Mules went 16-1 with the lone loss coming in a time-shortened game. Solanco hit for a team average of .450 for the season which included 51 extra base hits. The Mules connected on 17 home runs, 10 triples, and 24 doubles. The Mules outscored their opponents 249-29.
