The Solanco softball team entered the week with a league and district playoff berth secured and a shot to claim the section title. The Mules won twice last week including an 18-2 triumph over Lebanon in four innings Friday. Leading 13-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth, Solanco put the game away. Pinch hitter Makayla Pluck, up from the JV, walked to ignite the uprising. Maribeth Ault had a hit. After an out, Kate Herr walked and Emma Kreider singled to drive in a run. Abby Heidelbaugh walked to force in a run and Danae Dombach ended the game with a three-run double. Ault was 3 for 4 on the day and Kreider was 2 for 2 with three RBIs. "It's always good to be able to get people at bats," coach Brett Miller said. Winning pitcher Cait Armstrong gave up three hits while striking out two and yielding one walk.
"Cait is showing signs of improvement," said Miller. "She's working to improve her velocity." The Mules routed Conestoga Valley 15-5 Monday, April 28. "They have a decent pitcher," said Miller. "We spotted them three runs and then the onslaught just happened." Solanco scored six runs in the second inning highlighted by a no-doubt-about-it home run by Armstrong. Brittany Fisher led off with a walk and scored on a Kortnee Kreider double. Madi Sheaffer singled and Heidelbaugh singled to score courtesy runner Emma Kreider. Kerri Mauger doubled to plate Sheaffer and Heidelbaugh and Armstrong homered to cap the rally. The Mules tacked on four runs in the third. With one out, Heidelbaugh and Mauger had consecutive hits and both scored on a hit off the bat of Emily Parmer. Sam Graver belted a triple off the fence to score Parmer and Graver wound up scoring on a wild pitch. In the fourth, Mauger walked with two out and scored on a Parmer double. With one out in the sixth, Heidelbaugh walked and Mauger doubled to put runners on second and third. Parmer singled to knock in both baserunners. After an out, Armstrong walked and Ault doubled to score Parmer and Morgan Hodson, who was running for Armstrong. Parmer was 3 for 5 with five RBIs. Mauger was 3 for 3 with two RBIs and four runs scored. Heidelbaugh was 2 for 3 with an RBI. She had three stolen bases and scored three times. The section title could come down to Tuesday's game against visiting Elizabethtown. The Mules would need to beat the Bears to create a tie atop the standings and force a playoff game. Solanco has already qualified for the league tournament which begins Saturday. Comments are closed.
