UPDATE: Solanco lost 2-1 to Hempfield in the Lancaster-Lebanon League semifinals Monday night. The Mules will return to action in the district tournament beginning Thursday, May 26.
It was another memorable week for the Solanco softball team. The Mules captured another Section Two title and then prevailed in the quarterfinals of the league tournament. Saturday, Solanco scored three runs in the sixth inning to defeat Annville-Cleona 3-1 in the first round of the Lancaster-Lebanon League tournament at Garrett Park. Solanco's softball team entered the week with an opportunity to capture another section title.
The Mules (12-4 overall, 10-3 league) were tied with Elizabethtown for first place. Elizabethtown will host the Mules Wednesday afternoon when the section crown could be decided. Solanco's softball team posted a pair of victories last week in two vastly different ways.
The Mules walloped McCaskey 17-0 in three innings last Wednesday. Liz Mowrer was 3 for 4 with three RBIs and scored three runs. Bekah Borcky also went 3 for 4, doubled, knocked in two, and scored two runs. Randi Rambo was 3 for 4 with a double. Sydney Sturgill had two hits and an RBI, and scored twice. Solanco's softball team won two of three crossover games against Section One foes last week.
The Mules edged host Cedar Crest 3-2 Friday afternoon. Solanco's softball team won two of three games last week, including a critical section matchup with Garden Spot.
On Friday, the Mules lost 3-0 to Section One Penn Manor in a crossover game. The Comets' ace Brittany Hook recorded 10 strikeouts and yielded just three hits – two by Abby Heidelbaugh and one by Sydney Sturgill. The Solanco softball team was one out away from a win over rival Elizabethtown and a five-game winning streak.
The Bears scored runs in the bottom of the seventh on a hard-hit ball that caromed off a Mule infielder and prevailed 7-6 in a battle of Section Two powerhouses. Solanco's JV softball team recorded two victories last week to improve to 3-0 on the season.

The Mules (2-1) broke the game open with seven runs in the top of the sixth in a 9-1 triumph over host Wilson Friday afternoon. Solanco's JV softball team opened the season with a 16-0 triumph over visiting Pequea Valley in five innings last Thursday.
Freshman Skyla Townsley earned the win and allowed two hits and two walks while whiffing eight. Solanco softball coach Brett Miller knew his relatively inexperienced squad might struggle at the start of the season.
He's also confident they'll learn from their mistakes and bounce back strong. Miller said the Mules made too many mistakes in an 8-4 season-opening loss at Pequea Valley last Thursday afternoon. |
