"My phone's been ringing off the hook."
That's what Cindy Cantor, who was coordinating the planting project at Calvert Regional Park said Saturday morning, October 10, between phone calls. Cantor, who works for Cecil's Parks and Recreation Department, was directing volunteers who were helping to plant more than 50,000 shrubs in the park.
"For the first shift, we had 20 volunteers. We had the Rising Sun boys lacrosse team, a lot of families, and some individuals," said Cantor. Those who opted to do so, got to earn service learning hours for participating.
John LoPresto, his wife, Lisa, their sons, Luke and Mark, and family friend Ryan MacEachern, worked as a group planting on the right side of the park.
"Our sons have played lacrosse. It's important to do our part for this park. We supported the building of this park," said John LoPresto, who is a teacher at Perryville High.
