You may find someone who loves Elkton more than Sue Whitaker, but it would be a challenge.
Her devotion and dedication to Elkton's revitalization effort and organization of Elkton's Chamber/Alliance helped Whitaker earn this year's Citizen of the Year Honors.
Before being named Person of the Year by Rising Sun's Lions Club, Dawn Deckman had to work for it.
Deckman was invited by Rising Sun Lions Club past president Ellen Lucas to talk about the Neighborhood Youth Panel, an organization for which Deckman serves as a volunteer. About 15 years ago, Deckman started volunteering with youth at Janes United Methodist Church. She was then offered the job as youth director and started studying religion at Liberty University. She then volunteered with Fellowship with Christian Athletes and later became a board member and staffer. She is also a character coach for the Rising Sun girls soccer and lacrosse teams. She serves as a mentor and role model to many children in the community. She's a mother of three children, two step-children, and seven grandchildren. She and her husband, Mark live near Rising Sun.
