If you're planning to build a new home, now is the time.
The Town of Elkton will even give you a significant discount on any one of the 400 available home building sites in that town.
Beginning September 1 of this year and continuing until August 31, 2019, Elkton is waiving $15,000 in connection fees for the town's water and wastewater systems. That fee includes the $5,000 water connection fee and the $10,000 sewer hook-up fee.
It's being billed as Elkton's economic stimulus package.
The waiver is for residential construction only and does not apply to commercial properties. "We want to offer an incentive for residential developers. And individuals," said Elkton town administrator Lewis George.
Elkton officials paved the way for this by adopting a code amendment in August. "Major facilities charges shall be amended with the intent to provide for a two-year economic stimulus period within the town for residential development" is part of that code change.
According to Elkton director of building and planning Charles Bromwell, there are about 400 potential lots ripe for home building in Elkton. "As far as recorded lots are concerned the number is somewhere near 400 potential lots that developers could build on and take advantage of the major facilities fee waiver. There are additional lots that were never record," said Bromwell.
According to the town administrator, as of last week, no one had yet taken advantage of the program.
