The Cecil County Salute to Veterans scheduled for tonight, July 3, in North East Town Park, has been moved to Sunday, July 6.
Matt Carter, chairman of the Cecil County Salute to Veterans, said fear of lightning storms has caused the schedule change.
"We don't want 15,000 people showing up and not have a show. Safety is paramount," said Carter, who explained that all events will be scheduled as planned. Only the date has changed. The schedule is as follows:
The event will now begin Sunday at 5 p.m. This year, all veterans will be honored with a special tribute to those who served in Afghanistan.
Schedule of events:
4:45 p.m. - Shuttles start from North East Station to the town park
5 p.m. - Gates and food concessions open
7:55 p.m. - North East Mayor Robert McKnight provides an invocation and recognition of honored guests
8 p.m. Flag raising and community Pledge of Allegiance
8:10 p.m. Presentation from local and state representatives
8:15 p.m. Concert by Upper Chesapeake Community Band
9:15 p.m. Fireworks
The Salute was cancelled in 2013 and not held due to weather.
