A year and a half after vowing to bring theater, music, and fun to Rising Sun, Laura Woods has now made a full time commitment to the community.
Woods has given up her part time job overseeing theater at Jennersville YMCA and is now devoting all her time to Street Lamp Productions.
"It's great. It's growing by leaps and bounds. It is a huge leap of faith and Now I am giving myself 100 percent," said Woods, who also balances family life and children with work.
As of last week, there are currently four different shows in various stages of production at Street Lamp. Godspell Jr. will run on April 7 and 8 at 7 p.m.
The April 8 at 2 p.m. show will be a benefit for Muscular Dystrophy Association. Woods has a connection with benefit productions. Before she had the theater building, she partnered with Janes Church to stage benefits. She has continued that with Godspell Jr.
Next to Normal takes to the stage April 21, 22, 28 and 29 at 8 p.m. and April 23 and 30 at 2 p.m. The April 22 show features a special presentation on Minding Your Mind - mental health awareness. Woods isn't directing that production but said it features amazing actors from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.
Dickie Mahoney has also stepped in to help out with an upcoming production of Footloose. That will be community theater and features actors ages 13 to adult.
Woods has also set up plenty of summer fun. There will be weekly camps bringing shows to the stage. June 12-16 will be a dance camp. June 19-23 will be a Little Mermaid musical theatre camp. July 10-14 there will be both a Disney Channel Camp and a Frozen camp with Oxford Center for Dance.
Make a Movie camp will be held July 17-21. Beauty and the Beast camp will be July 24-28. Oz camp will be August 7-15. Glee camp will run August 14-18.
