Armed with scissors, clippers, and combs, stylists Lori Jones and Charlotte Lefever got to work.
In just over two hours, the women cut 23 heads of children's hair during National Night Out at the North East Boys and Girls Club Tuesday, August 6. Not one person paid for the haircut.
Jones has two children, ages 12 and 8, that attend the club.
She said that she and Lefever cut hair at the night out as a way to give back to the community.
"I see a need for it in the club. This is a good outreach for children who wouldn't have gotten haircuts," said Jones.
Jones said the response was positive. "People said 'you just saved us on back to school haircuts'." Jones also heard from parents who said they didn't have money for haircuts and were grateful for the service.
"We feel blessed that we are able to do it," said Jones.
Jones, who formerly worked at another area salon, opened her own business, Studio 13, next to North East post office in June.
Lefever is a stylist there. The two women have a combined 30 years experience as stylists.
They offer service to men, women, children, and senior citizens. Seniors also receive daily discounts. For more information about the salon call 443-674-8545.
