School gains 19 students in new year

New year, new school.
Since the beginning of December, 20 new students have enrolled at Rising Sun Elementary School bringing enrollment to 720 students.
School secretary Jo Ann Sowers spent a recent snow day cancellation for students processing the new enrollments.
"Eighteen students have enrolled since the holiday break. And we just got another one. Luckily, it's been different grade levels," said Sowers. "We've had more this year than ever."
Since January 2, Sowers said 19 new students have transferred into the school.
School officials said the biggest time of school enrollment is typically right after the school year ends in June and right before it begins in September.
"Rising Sun is a growing area, but it is not unusual for schools to see higher enrollment numbers around the December/January timeframe," said Kelly Keeton, Assistant in Administration for Cecil County Public Schools.
