When the Town of Rising Sun honored police earlier this year, Commissioner Augie Pierson promised a similar event would be held for firefighters and EMS personnel.
Pierson kept his promise.
The Town of Rising Sun's Fire and EMS Appreciation Breakfast is set for Friday, October 13 from 8-11 a.m. at R.T. Foard Social Hall on South Queen Street.
For three years, Rising Sun has hosted a Police Appreciation Breakfast during either January or February. Former town commissioner Jennifer Scully organized the first event.
With her family, Scully prepared and donated the food. After being appointed to the town board, Pierson, who is a retired Baltimore City firefighter, helped with cooking for this year's breakfast.
"Bob Foard is letting us use his facility. We've outgrown this (town hall) facility. I hope Red Breakfast will be as successful as Blue Breakfast," said Pierson.
Pierson plans to start cooking a day prior to the event. The menu includes scrapple, bacon, eggs, waffles, pancakes, and ham.
Pierson said he also hopes to recruit Scully to help with the event due to her experience with the past successful Blue Breakfasts.
"I was amazed at how much cooking needs to be done. We are saying thanks for some of the most thankless jobs. This is our way, as a community of saying thanks," said Pierson.
Anyone who would like to volunteer to help at this event may leave a message for Pierson at Rising Sun town hall. Call 410-658-5353 or stop by.
