Honors Drama students at Rising Sun High School have managed to mix pirates and Shakespeare for their upcoming children's performance.
"Fearsome Pirate Frank" by Pat Lydersen will take to the stage this week.
Honors Drama teacher Tess Pohlhaus is directing the show which is intended to capture a young audience. The cast will host about 500 third, fourth, and fifth graders, for shows on November 14-15. An evening public performance will be held in Rising Sun High auditorium on Friday, November 15 at 7 p.m. The admission cost is $5 for everyone at the public performance.
"Fearsome Pirate Frank" features sailors, zombie pirates, and more. "The story is fun and action. It has a lot of elements. There is something for everyone," said Pohlhaus, who chose the work to fit her class.
"It's a completely different show in front of an audience. They feed off that energy. The characters get bigger, the actions get cleaner, and they are able to communicate with the audience," said Pohlhaus.
Students also faced a special challenge - learning to speak their lines in pirate dialect.
The cast for the upcoming show includes: Trevor Korn, Rachel Ferro, Cheyenne Bigley, Gannon Webb, Shane McGinley, Brianna Hilliard, Tyler Davis, Alexa Thompson, Jen Braun, Emily Easter, Akyra Glaze, Bridget Boyle, Justin Killough, Geoff Szekerczes, Silas Taylor, Sterling Rapposelli, Zack Schaeffer, Ian Hudson, Tim Szekerczes, Kristin Bjerke, and Meredith Groff.
