Locals from around Perryville attended a free yoga class held at the Perryville Library last week. Some of the reasons why they attended the class were to relieve stress, help with flexibility, and that it was a free class. Yoga is also a way for you to relieve stress and anger and to find your inner self.
"I have a lot of stress and anger problems and I'm hoping it helps with my anger and stress. I wanted to come out for 'me time'. I have a three-year-old at home and, between working six days a week and helping my friend out with her baby, I don't get
a lot of time for myself. So this hour is a time for myself," said Kimberly Thomas.
Some of the benefits to bringing yoga to a local library is a way to give back to the community and offering a place that is easy to get to and a quiet place.
"The best part about bringing yoga to a library is that is giving back to the community and everything about the library is offering something for free. When you are able to offer it (yoga) here (at the library) its a nice quiet space for them to come into," said certified yoga instructor Adonia Garvin.
The attendees learned about different yoga poses and how to do them on their own.
According to Garvin, the benefits of yoga include 'you time' to be by yourself and focus on yourself.
"It's okay to give yourself your own time. It's okay to breathe and let go of this facade of having to do everything like everyone else. It's the most important thing to do for yourself, to carve out that time for you," said Garvin. "Yoga really is about finding yourself again."
The next class will be held August 11 at the Perryville branch.
