Perryville residents and business owners have a few more days to stake their claim.
The deadline for a pair of grant programs is looming. There will be $15,000 in grant funding available this year for the Perryville Video Lottery Terminal Local Community Impact Grant Program.
The 501(c) grants are for non-profit entities which are within Perryville town limits or provide a public service to Perryville's citizens. Funding for this grant is contingent upon VLT funds.
Typically, the $15,000 in funds is divided among several organizations. Applications are submitted for one of six purposes: infrastructure improvements, facilities, public safety, sanitation, economic and community development, or other public services and improvements.
A three-member committee, consisting of town staff from various departments, determines the recipients. Those committee recommendations are then forwarded to the mayor and commissioners for approval.
Approximately $20,000 in additional VLT funds will fund revitalization projects for properties in Perryville. The funds are for properties in the neighborhood business, town center, single family residential, or multi-family residential zoning districts.
Those who apply to upgrade properties must not have any current zoning violations. A three-member committee comprised of town staff makes recommendations to the mayor and commissioners regarding grant awards. Properties south of Route 40 receive higher points in scoring.
Perryville town administrator Denise Breder said that past grant awards have resulted in improvements in the community. Grants to improve the looks of properties has been embraced by those who want to upgrade a building's exterior. "It has made a visible difference in the community," said Breder.
A workshop where the grant submission requirements will be outlined and questions answered regarding the forms is set for Wednesday, September 30 at 4:30 p.m. at Perryville town hall. You may still submit a grant application whether you attend the meeting or not. The deadline to submit applications for either of these grant programs is October 7. Applications for the grants are available at town hall or online at www.perryvillemd.org.
